Women of Colour Business Owners

Please read the survey carefully and answer as honestly as possible. Your answers will help both us and PRECIOUS to understand what support activity is required to help people and businesses prosper.

The survey is anonymous and we ask that you don’t provide any commercially sensitive data in your responses.

The research is being undertaken by AddVantage. All responses will remain anonymous and will be collated to create a report which will be available to the public once published.

PRECIOUS is an online magazine, network and resource for women of colour. Launched in 1999, it was the first publication of its kind to launch in the UK.

The stated aim is to profile and celebrate the professional and entrepreneurial achievements of women of colour in the UK. Several events are hosted throughout the year including an annual awards event that celebrates the achievements of entrepreneurs and leaders in business and community.

Foluke Akinlose MBE, Founder of PRECIOUS

I am very excited to launch this research in partnership with Santander.

I believe women of colour in business are a rich, diverse, yet largely untapped and in some ways invisible sector of British business. It’s time to shake off this cloak of invisibility.

When I was thinking of who we could partner with on this research to be honest a bank was not an obvious choice. However, the face of modern British business is changing and Santander totally get that. They have a unique holistic approach to small businesses, providing an offering that isn’t just business banking, but a blend of products and support to help businesses do well.

We have a common goal in that we both want women of colour in business to do well. That’s why this research is so important as it will allow us to serve this community of women better by understanding the tools and services that they need to succeed.

Louise Robinson, Head of Breakthrough, Santander Business

Breakthrough looks to support entrepreneurs and business owners beyond finance. This piece of research is a first for us, and we’re delighted to be joining forces with Foluke and PRECIOUS to undertake it.

We first met Foluke in 2016 when she attended a Santander Breakthrough Women in Business event. On hearing her story, and understanding the whole ethos behind PRECIOUS, we really felt the synergies in what we were both trying to achieve – to help women of colour business owners to achieve their aspirations, and to highlight their successes providing a role model for others.

This research will enable us to fully understand the support required by businesses led by women of colour.
