What to do if someone dies

We’re here to help if someone dies.

Losing someone in your business can be very difficult. In addition to the emotional upheaval of coping with a death, you may also need to take care of financial matters.

We can help at this difficult time with practical help and support on what to do next and what this means for your business.

What happens next

A member of our team will get in touch with you. We may ask for information so we can update our records. For example, an original or certified copy of the death certificate. In some cases, we may be able to verify the registration digitally.

We’ll also ask about your future intentions for the business. Your Relationship Team will support any account changes and talk about any lending facilities

More information

We have a bereavement guide which explains the steps you’ll need to take to sort out any accounts held with us plus other information. The ‘Business Banking or Corporate & Commercial Banking’ chapter covers next steps for different business types.

If the deceased was also a Santander personal banking customer, you will be able to provide these details to the bereavement team or on our online notification form. You can learn more in our personal customer bereavement pages.
