Virtual Trade Mission connects 8 South West businesses with New York City

New York - Santander US brought together Exeter and New York City - SantanderCB

At the latest Virtual Trade Mission, Santander UK and Santander US brought together Exeter and New York City. The aim of the mission was to connect eight food and drink companies from the South West with four of the industry’s biggest players in the US market. Over video conference, businesses pitched their products across the Atlantic and gained instant, honest feedback. Julie Ounsworth, International Director for Exeter, said, ‘This kind of first-hand knowledge is invaluable for businesses as it allows them to adapt their products as necessary before entering a new market.’Delegates also got advice from John Moore of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), who shared his expertise on the main aspects UK exporters should think about when selling in the US. The delegates learned that permits, the size of the products, and the names of certain food types all need to be considered. Mark Muncey, Group Marketing Director of Proper Cornish Ltd, pitched Furniss Biscuits on the day. He said, ‘The FDA speaker was very useful. It’s amazing how you can get caught out with the labelling etc for different countries.’ Virtual Trade Missions are just one of the ways Santander is supporting ambitious businesses with their international expansion.
