Industry lobby group UK Steel has urged the government to cut green taxes and ban cheap imports in a bid to help firms survive during a period of low prices on the back of China's economic slowdown and the strong pound. Concerns have been raised about the future of the largest steelworks in Teesside, owned by SSI, after it announced a pause in iron- and steelmaking, as well as the mothballing of one of its coke ovens.
