The Times and Santander SME supplements

The supplements created by Santander and The Times' editorial team are available to read as online magazines. Launched in October 2013, the 'Successful Modern Entrepreneurship' supplements were published with The Times in print format and on the newspaper's iPad edition. They are one facet of Santander and The Times' collaborative resource for small businesses in the UK, a multi-platform campaign comprising information, advice and networking opportunities. More supplements will be published online in the coming months as they are released.

November 2015, The Challengers #3

Welcome to the third supplement in our 'Challengers' series, an exciting partnership between Santander and The Times. We're taking the opportunity to highlight some of the British businesses that are challenging the status quo, and who're recognised as game-changers in their fields.

This time we focus on digital innovation with a sector focus on technology. We take a look at what’s moving and shaking in the world of digital and how digital technologies are shaping the way we live our lives across different regions. We bring to life the digital theme even further focusing on payment technologies with the voice of Sarah Beauvallet. Our various case studies have regional interest, including our lead case study Ovo based in the South West to Clear Returns, a retail software company based in Glasgow.
 
The Inspired by section will focus on Retail too - there is so much innovation happening across different sectors but nowhere more so than in the retail sector. From big data, Internet of Things to payments technology, there is plenty to talk about how retail is undergoing a revolution in front of our very eyes.

October 2015, The Challengers #2

Welcome to the second supplement in our 'Challengers' series, an exciting partnership between Santander and The Times. We're taking the opportunity to highlight some of the British businesses that are challenging the status quo, and who're recognised as game-changers in their fields.
  
Our cover star John Vincent is a true pioneer: having realised there was no healthy fast food options in the market, he co-founded Leon, a Mediterranean restaurant chain which offers nutritionally balanced food, without compromising on taste. 
 
He recognises that this wouldn’t be possible without creating a culture within the business that he says is based on love - love of nutritious, healthy food, but also love for colleagues and customers.
       
This issue will also delve into the other ways connections between people affect how entrepreneurs start and run businesses. Sam Bompas of Bompas & Parr explains how trust between him and co-founder Harry Parr is the foundation their experimental food business is built on. And Mark Sullivan, chairman of Cornish Sea Salt, points out how having a range of inter-connected brands under one umbrella leads to innovation across them all.
 
The UK is brimming with pioneering food and drink companies. This month we cast a closer eye over the south-west of England, which spawns more than its fair share of startups and fresh new brands. What is it that makes this area so special?

September 2015, The Challengers #1

Welcome to The Challengers, an exciting partnership between Santander and The Times. Together we're celebrating the SMEs making the largest impact in their industries, disrupting and challenging the way we do business.

From the innovative start-up with sights set on far flung lands, to the established brands working the 'Made In Britain' label to the max, this month’s issue delves into exports and meets the challengers leading the way in global trade.
 
There's never been a better time for SMEs to focus on international markets - British products are highly sought after and esteemed beyond our shores. As well as bringing some export stories to life, we'll be exploring the opportunity presented by the UAE as an export market and how SMEs can make the most of it.
