Skills shortage in Britain 'is among the worst in Europe'

British - Britain has one of the most urgent skills shortages - SantanderCB

Britain has one of the most urgent skills shortages in Europe as employers struggle to find suitable candidates to fill new roles, according to a new report. Research by Oxford Economics and Hays has found that the skills mismatch in the UK has grown worse each year since 2012. According to the Hays Global Skills Index, Britain has a 'talent mismatch' score of 9.7 out of 10, 'among the worst in Europe'. The research warns that unless skilled workers can be found, productivity will continue to lag behind nations on the Continent. British workers currently produce a third less than German and French workers in the same time. The report says the skills mismatch has worsened in 21 of the 31 countries surveyed, but has been more pronounced in Britain.
