Shoppers to splurge £6,000 every second

Black Friday, the US retail phenomenon heading for British shores, falls this year on November 28, and British stores are expecting it to mark the start of the biggest shopping weekend of the year, coming just one month before Christmas. Visa Europe forecasts the number of online transactions in the UK will be greater by more than a fifth on last year's figure, with shoppers predicted to spend £360,000 a minute on its cards. Elsewhere, the latest figures from Mintel, the market research agency, show retail sales will rise by 3% this Christmas to £36.5 billion, with 25% of shoppers intending to do their buying online.
