Record car sales in March top unbroken 3-year growth

Car Sales

Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show the arrival of '15' number plates last month helped drive new car sales in Britain to a 21st-century high. The total of 492,774 new registrations was the best March figure on record and the highest total in any month since the switch to six-monthly plate changes in 1999. It was up 6% on March 2014 and took the total for this year so far to 734,588, a 6.8% rise on the January-March figure last year. The UK new car market has been growing for 37 months in a row. The SMMT said sales of alternatively fuelled vehicles, including hybrids and electric vehicles, also continue to rise, with 14,335 units sold in March, an increase of more than 60% on the same month in 2014.
