Raise a glass: UK wine trade more than doubles since 2006
Research from the Wine and Spirit Trade Association indicates that the UK's wine trade has more than doubled in the past decade and has become a key hub for importing and distributing wine to 124 countries across the globe.
The trade body's 2016 Wine Report identifies France as the UK's biggest trading partner for wine, although the US, Moldova, Macau, the United Arab Emirates and Brazil also rank highly.
Domestically, wine is the most popular tipple among Britons, with the equivalent of 30m people drinking it. Britain also imports more wine per head than any other country.
It is the world's second largest importer of wine by volume, behind Germany, and the second largest by value after the US.
