New Food and Leisure Business Looks to put Holmfirth in the Gourmet Map

West Yorkshire-based Coddy’s Farm, a mixed livestock business, is to diversify into hotel accommodation and gourmet short breaks following funding support from Santander Corporate & Commercial.

Run by husband and wife team Andrew and Lisa Colwill, Coddy’s Farm is a small, successful family hill farm set high above the picturesque village of Holmfirth. After securing RDPE grant support, the business is diversifying in order to put it on a firmer footing for future generations, and will look to convert an existing stone barn into eight 4-star bed and breakfast accommodations with an ancillary food education centre.

The gourmet short breaks will allow the couple to showcase the very best in local produce. Farm tours and butchery demonstrations will be carried out in-house, and cookery lessons and demonstrations will be conducted in collaboration with other local producers who will showcase their skills and produce. The breaks will also include a ‘muddy boots tour’, building on existing farm experience days already on offer.

The short breaks will be available from December 2014 and have already led to employment opportunities for two local people and a full-time chef, with more to be created in the future.

Lisa Colwill, Partner at Coddy’s Farm, said: “We are excited about the transformational change to our farm business and are confident that by converting the stone barn into high-end guest accommodation we are safeguarding our business for future generations of our family. Santander’s expertise in the agriculture industry has been key to the success of this project and we look forward to working with the local team further.”

Darren Smith, Relationship Director, Agriculture team, Santander Corporate & Commercial, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Andrew and Lisa at Coddy’s Farm in the exciting development of the next stage of their business. They have shown great acumen in deciding to diversify, while maintaining the core parts of the farm. We are confident the gourmet short breaks will provide guests with an unforgettable farm experience.”
