Making a positive start

Let’s start 2013 as we mean to go on, writes Marcelino Castrillo, Managing Director of Commercial Banking at Santander UK.

Standing proud

As I outlined in our last issue, last year was particularly challenging for business, as well as for the banking industry as a whole. Yet as we come to the end of the first month of 2013, I think we should approach the coming year with confidence. I am extremely proud of the way our customers tackled many of the issues they faced head-on and I strongly feel this reflects a generally positive attitude towards what the future could hold. I am also pleased that Santander Corporate & Commercial continues to strengthen its offering to customers, with a great range of solutions and services available through our expanding UK network of relationship teams – and we have recently been working to enhance our range of current and deposit accounts. Your local Relationship Director will be delighted to tell you more.

Positive attitude

For this issue of Business Up Close, we spoke to Tony Hseih – a young and extremely successful US-based entrepreneur – who puts ‘happiness’ at the top of his list of business priorities. This is an inspirational approach focused around people, both employees and customers. It represents what I feel will be fundamental to growing a successful business in 2013 and onwards – as a way of differentiating your company from its competitors, but also forming the basis for lasting and meaningful relationships with those you conduct business with (and those who work for you). At Santander, we are also committed to improving what we offer and how we offer it, and will continue to work hard on this throughout the months and years ahead.

What can we do for you?

At Santander, we are committed to providing our business customers with the right solutions and support to help them achieve their aspirations now and into the future - and we call it “Fuelling Business Ambition.”  We want our business customers to be as successful as they possibly can be, helping them in a variety of ways. From launching new funding initiatives to day-to-day support and advice, we are in it for the long-term, and aim to be consistent in how we work no matter what stage a company is at. One valued customer relationship which reflects this approach is the one we hold with Haskins Garden Centres. Julian Winfield, CEO, says of how he works with Santander and his Relationship Director, Mike Donaldson: “The decision to change banks was not an easy one, as we were with our previous provider for 100 years. Santander stood out in terms of listening and trying to find out how it could really help us as a business. Mike shows genuine interest in the company, but also the people in the business, which is important to us.” See Julian and Mike’s story on our YouTube channel to hear more about how Santander has helped support the ambitions of this thriving family business.
