Families to review care homes in bid to drive up standards

Families Review Care Homes to Drive Standards Up

A website that enables families to compare information about care homes and post their own TripAdvisor-style reviews is to be launched today by the government in an attempt to drive up standards in the sector. The site, covering every care home in England, will combine ratings from inspectors, food hygiene standards, levels of staff turnover and services on offer. It will also allow users to post a rating and give feedback on homes used by their relatives. The website was a key recommendation made four years ago by Andrew Dilnot in his report on funding residential care. Alistair Burt, the health minister, said that more information would help families make an often difficult decision on where their loved one should be looked after. 'This is a victory for those who are worried about care. With a click of a button they will be able to make an informed choice and make those difficult decisions easier,' he said.
