Dudley College to Complete State-of-the-Art Learning Quarter Following Funding From Santander

Dudley College of Technology has become the latest client of Santander’s Corporate & Commercial Education team in the Midlands.

15 October 2015 – Dudley College of Technology, a further education provider ranked as one of the top three colleges nationally for the number of apprentices in terms of qualifications achieved, has become the latest client of Santander’s Corporate & Commercial Education team in the Midlands as it progresses to complete the final phase of its Dudley Learning Quarter, a standalone Centre for Advanced Building Technologies.

Dudley College has a 150-year history and is now recognised as a provider of the highest-quality education skills programme, with 12,000 learners aged from 14 to senior citizens in full and part-time courses, including 3,000 apprentices. The college has an overall apprenticeship success rate of 89%, 20 percentage points above the national average. It has invested £50 million in recent years in developing the Dudley Learning Quarter, a state-of-the-art teaching, study and student recreational campus. The latest facility is a £12m project, developed in conjunction with the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and will deliver key vocational skills in the latest construction techniques, supporting both regional and national construction firms through re-training and apprenticeships.

Santander Corporate & Commercial’s Midlands Education Team has supported the College in the refinance and restructuring of its existing facilities onto a long-term, sustainable structure, which enables the College to progress the final stage of the Dudley Learning Quarter. The £20m funding package will also enable the College to expand its international focus through Capacity and Capability Building Projects, administered on behalf of the Saudi government, whereby the College shares its knowledge and skills of running and developing successful learning facilities with Saudi colleges.

Lowell Williams, Principal, Dudley College, said: "Dudley College is absolutely delighted with the service and support which has been provided by Santander. Not only have they shown a genuine and detailed interest in the college’s core provision, but they have an understanding and appetite for supporting our growing international business. We look forward to a long and successful relationship with them.”

John Ramsay, Relationship Director, Santander Corporate and Commercial, said: “Our education team has been delighted to work with Dudley College on this exciting new stage of their journey. They continue to invest in state of the art facilities for their students and are rewarded with excellent success rates. We also are keen to support their efforts to diversify income streams through their international reach.”
