Downpours put dampener on sales of clothing online

Laptop - Internet sales roles by just 5% in the UK last month - SantanderCB

Internet shopping sales rose by just 5% in the UK last month, the weakest online sales growth in August for 15 years, according to figures from Interactive Media in Retail Group and Capgemini. Growth was low in several sectors, notably clothing, which also saw growth of just 5% while online sales of electrical items fell 1% against last year. Health and beauty, gifts and homeware sectors generated more positive figures, with year-on-year growth of 30%, 23% and 31% respectively. The numbers have raised concerns that Britain's enthusiasm for 'click shopping' is waning and that the market may be hitting a plateau.
