Companies shrug off fears of a slowdown

Manufacturing and services companies have brushed past recent signs of a slowdown and ended last year on a high, the British Chambers of Commerce has reported. In its latest quarterly economic survey, the BCC said that the manufacturing sector had increased domestic and export sales and planned to boost recruitment, and that the dominant services sector was similarly positive. Its survey also found that a record number of manufacturing and services companies had tried to recruit staff in the final three months of 2014 – the highest balance recorded since it began in 1990 – while a record number of manufacturers invested in training, plant and machinery.
