Entrepreneurs - The importance of supporting young entrepreneurs - SantanderCB

Writing in the Financial Times, Zoopla Property Group founder and chief executive Alex Chesterman discusses the importance in supporting young entrepreneurs. He cites numerous reports, including a study by Santander which shows an estimated 80,000 university students in the UK run their own business or joint venture. The data is supported by Enterprise Nation research revealing more than half of young people aged 16-25 want to start their own business. It also showed a 70% increase in the number of company founders aged 35 or under between 2006 and 2013. Chesterman says an environment has been created to encourage such activity, including a revolution in digital communications creating easier methods to raise finance and to market and sell goods and services, alongside lower corporation taxes and tax breaks. He also believes young entrepreneurs need mentoring, advice and role models, and he sees an opportunity for businesses to work with schools to create programmes that complement the curriculum.
