Car sales speed up despite VW crisis

Car sales are forecast to show their 43rd month of growth when figures are published this week, despite the Volkswagen emissions scandal. Economists expect the longest period of growth in car sales on record to have continued into September when monthly car registration data are released on Tuesday. UK sales in August were up 9.6% on the same month last year, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. But last month's growth is not expected to be as strong because of unexpectedly robust sales in September 2014.
