Business acumen is child's play for one toy firm

Chepstow-based toy maker and designer Kids@Play has been listed among the Welsh Fast Growth 50 companies for the fifth year in succession. The company has opened up new export markets in countries like South Africa, France, Spain, Australia and New Zealand, and in the Middle East and Asia. Managing director Malcolm Evans says the company's support from Santander Corporate & Commercial has enabled it to meet its full export potential. Kids@Play has an import loan facility from Santander, which allows it a high degree of flexibility and confidence in negotiations with major clients. The business – which has major licensing agreements to produce toys for Disney, BBC Doctor Who and the Discovery Channel – has some large contracts on the horizon, all in excess of £250,000. Evans said that Santander's understanding of international trading has speeded up the export process.
