Britons hit by most online advertising

Britons are bombarded by more online advertisements than the French, Spanish, Dutch and Italians combined. Internet advertisers are spending more than £7bn a year in the UK, the equivalent of £111 per person and more than three times the European average, according to IHS Technology. The intensity of online advertising in Britain has led to the take-up of ad-blocking software. Two in five Britons are using software to stop adverts appearing on websites. Display advertising, video and pop-up adverts, grew by more than a quarter in the UK last year. Only in the Irish Republic, Slovenia and Turkey did they grow quicker.
