Britain overtakes Germany in entertainment stakes
Britain is set to overtake Germany as the largest market for media and entertainment for the first time, according to a report by PwC, and will continue to outpace growth on the Continent for years to come.
By 2020 UK entertainment and media is set to be worth £68.2bn compared with £61.3bn in Germany as the UK's radio, advertising, book and magazine publishing, video and cinema attendance all outpace the equivalent sectors in Europe's most populous nation.
Phil Stokes, PwC's head of entertainment and media, said:
"The E&M market in Germany will grow by almost £5bn over the next five years but the UK's growth over the same period will outstrip it, generating an extra £9.4bn in the UK."
