Santander’s Breakthrough programme explained

Santander’s Breakthrough programme explained

Who is the programme aimed at?

Santander’s Breakthrough programme seeks to identify the best entrepreneurial companies in the UK and help them achieve their full potential.

The Breakthrough programme is aimed at businesses that have advanced beyond the start-up stage to achieve a turnover of between £500,000 and £10 million per annum, while posting growth of 20% or more in turnover, profit or employment.

Santander seeks to identify and support successful, fast-growth SMEs as they work to break through to the next level. Funding is an important part of the package. Over the next few years, we aim to make £200 million available for investment in businesses we see as ‘Growth Champions’.

Matching ambition with experience

Businesses that receive funding through the Breakthrough programme will also have first call on a series of groundbreaking initiatives, including:

  • Breakthrough Safari – Kicking off with a visit to Google, the ‘Safari’ initiative enables our Breakthrough companies to pay an onsite visit to the workplaces of entrepreneurs and managers further along the growth cycle.
  • Breakthrough Overseas – Working with UK Trade & Investment, we will take selected delegates on fact-finding trips overseas to both map out the markets and make useful contacts.
  • Breakthrough Live – We will organise two events per region per year, aiming to help businesses address the issues that impair growth while enabling them to network with likeminded people.
  • Breakthrough Enternship – This initiative will help Growth Champions spot future talent and inspire entrepreneurs of the future with fully funded placements.
  • Working towards growth

Breakthrough is more than just a funding initiative. It provides a means to deliver people and knowledge to businesses at a vital point in their development. The aim is to help these companies jump to the next level of sustainable growth and, in the process, create jobs, stimulate supply-chain demand and help kick-start private sector recovery.  If you think your company meets our growth criteria, now is the time to get in touch.
