Boutiques set to beat the chains

High street with shoppers walking

Retail experts Conlumino are predicting that independent shops are poised to see faster sales growth than bigger chains this Christmas. The analyst estimates that independent retailers will notch up around £21.7bn in sales this festive period, up 4.7% on last year, while growth for larger retailers is expected to be lower at 2.8%. Conlumino managing director Neil Saunders commented: 'It's still very tough for the independents but the general trend is that they are doing a bit better. The weaker ones dropped out some time ago. It's partly because of a drive towards shopping locally.'
