Birmingham office building roars ahead

Birmingham Offices being Built at Fastest Rate - Santander UK

Birmingham is building offices at the fastest rate for 13 years as the 'Midlands engine' benefits from the spillover of London's rapid growth. The latest Birmingham crane survey by Deloitte also shows a jump in hotel, leisure and retail developments. The report, which covers the city centre and suburb of Edgbaston, says 969,000 sq ft of office space was being built in 2015, with hotel construction three times higher than the 10-year average. Student apartments are being developed for the first time since 2013. Investors are ploughing money into office developments, with the amount of cash tripling between 2013 and 2015 to hit £1.03bn. That was only just behind the £1.1bn attracted to Manchester.
