Assembly House trust expands offering with new B&B facility following significant funding deal with Santander

The funding from Santander Corporate & Commercial has assisted with the refurbishment of a disused wing and its transformation into a luxury B&B.

Norwich-based The Assembly House, the Grade 1 historic house which boasts a popular restaurant and cafe as well as event facilities, has developed a wing of the house into a new state-of-the-art B&B with 11 luxury bedrooms and suites following a £545k funding package from Santander Corporate & Commercial.

The funding from Santander Corporate & Commercial has assisted with the refurbishment of a disused wing and its transformation into a luxury B&B fitted out to an exceptional standard to increase visitor numbers and generate additional income for the charity. Following extensive input from English Heritage, the new development was completed at the end of January 2016 and has created 8 new jobs for the local area.

Philip Norton, Chairman, The Assembly House Trust, said:
“We considered many ideas to develop the East Wing for public use but the space did not lend itself for exhibitions or performing arts and this would not have provided the necessary income the building needs to be maintained. Developing this new wing has allowed the Trust to restore it, avoiding any further deterioration and to bring it to life. The income from this new development will be reinvested in the House in the coming years to ensure we continue to provide space to support the visual and performing arts in Norwich and the wider county.”

Jon Humphreys, Relationship Director for Santander Corporate & Commercial, said: “As the team at The Assembly House look to invest for future growth we are delighted to assist with the refurbishment of the East Wing, to help the Trust achieve their ambition of restoring one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in the country.”
