North Yorkshire Moors Railway

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is part of Britain’s heritage. It’s a charitable trust that welcomes 300,000 visitors every year and has over 10,000 members. The railway holds great importance within the local community and NYMR seek to preserve and celebrate the history behind steam locomotives, educating their visitors along the journey.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) employs 100 full time staff, 50 seasonal staff and a team of 500 volunteers to keep the popular attraction running smoothly. In line with government guidance the attraction closed during lockdowns.

This year has been challenging for us, but it’s brought out the best in so many ways. Our relationship with Santander has strengthened immeasurably. We share a common goal, and this funding has enabled us to retain our people and keep operating with growth plans for the future generations.

Finance Director, North York Moors Historical Railway Trust Ltd

The Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan (CBILS) from Santander enabled the trust to retain staff and diversify its services to continue welcoming visitors with a limited winter service. The support also fuels their growth journey and dedication to preserving the railway for future generations.

It has been a pleasure to learn about this important historical railway. I’m delighted that we have been able to support the charity through this extremely challenging period and look forward to building our relationship with the team at NYMR further over the months and years ahead.
